Director of Electronic Manufacturing and Repair

Aviation Recruiting is looking for a Director of Electronic Manufacturing and Repair for our client in Florida. The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to an established group of aviation professionals responsible for the manufacturing and repair of electronic components that are primarily used in military aviation applications throughout the world.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee management of all areas of the department so that approved products are manufactured and/or repaired on-schedule and within the quality standards and cost objectives of the department
  • Assist company officers and senior staff members in the development and formulation of long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives
  • Daily management of the various P&Ls that make up the department including Manufacturing, Inside Repairs and Build to Print
  • Supervise all electronic manufacturing and repair activities in accordance with the company‚Äôs processes and procedures
  • Develop the manufacturing plan and establish repair procedures for maintaining high standards of shop operations to ensure that all products conform to established customer and company quality standards
  • Achieve optimum employee levels with the least amount of overhead and raw material costs to meet annual budgetary plan
  • Hire, train, develop and evaluate staff
  • Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy
  • Ensure compliance with current federal, state, and local regulations and consult with Human Resources Department as appropriate
  • Ensure the EMR shop is kept to the highest standards of safety, compliant at all times, enforcing regulations and practices to avoid accidents, and to ensure that good housekeeping practices are met at all times
  • Identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity, reduce cost and scrap, monitor scrap and rework data
  • Direct the establishment, implementation and maintenance of production and technician productivity standards
  • Direct and coordinate various programs essential to manufacturing and repair procedures (e.g., training, safety, housekeeping, cost reduction, worker involvement, security, etc.)
  • Initiate and coordinate major projects (e.g., plant layout changes, installation of capital equipment, development of new repair capabilities, etc.)
  • Work effectively and relate well with others
  • Exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others, working to maintain constructive working relationships
  • Keep current of information and technology affecting functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
  • Lead, coach and mentor departmental employees to consistently deliver excellence in their undertaking as individuals and team players
  • Ensure commitment and accountability at all levels by maintaining a cohesive organization motivated to exceed expectations in support of departmental operations
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to ensure departmental and corporate objectives are met, and an environment of cooperation is fostered
  • Strive for continuous process improvements while ensuring compliance to all regulatory, safety (OSHA), legal, and established corporate procedures, checks and balances
  • Conduct regular team meetings, clearly establishing objectives and resultant actionable items
  • Deal with customers in a cordial, respectful and professional manner, and see to it that all personnel behave accordingly
  • Lead by example, at all times; through professional behavior, integrity, commitment to the company and compliance with its policies
  • Demonstrate technical expertise and leadership by defining and implementing process changes to reduce cost and meet schedule(s) without compromising safety or quality

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS degree preferred
  • 4-year technical degree in a related discipline a plus
  • HS diploma/GED acceptable with significant experience in avionics repair
  • Military avionics experience preferred; IFF transponder experience a big plus
  • FAA 145 repair shop experience, preferably in avionics, is highly desirable
  • FAA 145 repair development experience is highly desirable
  • Experience working with manufacturing based technology, processes and principles
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills in order to prioritize workload according to business demands
  • Security clearance desirable, not required
  • Must work well under pressure
