Director of Flight Operations

Aviation Recruiting is looking for a Director of Flight Operations (Part 135 DO) for our client in Georgia. The Director of Operations (DO) reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day operation of the air carrier is carried out safely and efficiently.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensure and verify that Company flight operations are conducted in accordance with applicable FARs and Company regulations and policies
  • As directed by the COO, DO is responsible for enforcing all applicable Company policies
  • Formulate and implement departmental plans and policies
  • Maintain and update GOM, OPSPECS, and Training Manuals
  • Along with the Chief Pilot, Assistant Chief Pilot and Check Airmen – organize and conduct training in accordance with FAA and Company requirements
  • The Director of Operations is responsible for the coordination, scheduling, flight planning, dispatch/flight release, monitoring, and cancellation of all flights; exercises operational control
  • Responsible for departmental coordination between maintenance and flight operations, and coordination of all flights including training, positioning, and ferry flights
  • Develop a strong, communicative relationship with the Director of Maintenance
  • Maintain a close relationship with the sales department. Assure crewing, availability, and efficient coordination of efforts
  • Develop a departmental budget. Coordinate with COO to ensure adherence
  • Coordinate and monitor departmental cost containment efforts (Fuel, Expenses, etc.)
  • Forecast personnel needs
  • Lead recruitment of crew members
  • Establish operational, personnel, and performance standards
  • Conduct regular reviews with staff and crewmembers
  • Other responsibilities and as assigned by Executive management

Position Requirements:

  • Meet all requirements of FAR 119.71
  • Possess a thorough understanding of all FAR’s pertinent to 135 operations
  • Hold ATP Airmen Certificate
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of business jets, with strong preference for direct knowledge of types currently in fleet
  • Minimum of 5 years FAR 119 management experience exercising Operational Control

Desired Experience:

  • Management experience with 135 fleet operations in company with 10 or more aircraft on D085
  • Educational background in aviation management (degree program or CE credits)
  • PIC time in one or more types currently on D085
  • Experience working in a company that uses team leadership structure
