DIRECTOR – FLIGHT OPERATIONS (Part 135)


PURPOSE:

Exercise operational control, lead, direct and oversee the execution of the Company’s policies and producers, and ensure that all activities of the flight operations department are conducted in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with applicable regulations and company requirements including personnel and equipment, with the objective of high quality service delivery and performance within the limits of the Flight Operations Manual, QSMS Manual, GACA regulations and Company policies.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS:

SAFETY, SECURITY & QUALITY

  • Accountable for the safe running of his/her department by ensuring that safety is a part of each decision-making process; and be responsible for the safety and care of his/her employees while they are at work.
  • Timely resolution of safety issues in co-operation with the VP: Safety and Quality;

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT:

  • Supervision, organization, manning and efficiency of the following –
    • Flight operations;
    • Cabin safety;
    • Crew scheduling and rostering; and
  • Training programs
  • The contents of the OM
  • Supervision of and the production and amendment of the OM
  • Liaison with the regulatory authority on all matters concerning flight operations, including any variations to the OC of the Company
  • Liaison with any external agencies which may affect the operations of the Company
  • Ensuring that the operations of the Company are conducted in accordance with current regulations, standards, and the operator’s policy
  • Maintenance of a current operations library

 OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT:

  • Control of operations and operational standards of all aircraft operated;
  • Identification of operations coordination functions which impact on operational control (e.g. Maintenance, crew scheduling, load control, equipment scheduling);
  • Receipt and action of any aeronautical information affecting the safety of flight;
  • Dissemination of aircraft safety information, both internal and external, in conjunction with the SMS (refer to separate company document)

TEAM MANAGEMENT:

  • Ensuring that crew scheduling complies with flight and duty time regulations and that all crew members are kept informed of any changes to the regulations and standards;
  • Manages and controls all crew including disciplinary action as specified.
  • The competence, qualifications and currency of flight and cabin crew

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION

  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate

MINIMUM RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Have experience as PIC in an aircraft of a similar size or complexity as the aircraft used in the certificate holder’s operation; and
  • Have at least three years of supervisory or managerial experience in a position that exercised operational control over any operations conducted under Part 121 or 125, or similar
