Director of Airside Safety

Job Purpose  

Reporting to the General Manager – Aerodromes Division, this role is responsible for coordinating and supervising the operational functions of safety for airside operations at KKIA. The Director of Airside Safety will provide the Accountable Manager with assurance that the airside operations KKIA are being operated in accordance with the requirements specified by the regulatory authorities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate a hazard identification and risk management processes to ensure the safety risks are reduced to as Low as Reasonably Practical (ALARP)
  • Establishing systems for the carrying out of safety auditing to include operational audit of SOP’s in airside
  • Establishing an aerodrome process for the reporting and follow-up of accidents and incidents on the aerodrome and in its local airspace, including closure action
  • Establishing and implementing a process for carrying out risk assessments as part of the safety management system including a method of identifying hazards and evaluating risks
  • Reviewing assessments of hazard and the effectiveness of risk control methods
  • Ensuring that the aerodrome physical characteristics comply with licensing requirements and are maintained in a satisfactory condition
  • Owner of the aerodrome safeguarding process including relationships with the municipality on such matters
  • Responsible to administrate the compliance with the safety program and lead hazard/risk prevention
  • Provide advice on safety matters
  • Lead on the requirements and management DAC (Dangerous Air Cargo) in airside
  • Initiate and participate in occurrence / accident investigations
  • 3rd party audits and follow up to closure
  • Owner of the airside risk register and review process
  • Conduct safety impact assessments, owning these to ensure closure and adherence
  • Arrangements for assessing the safety compliance of all personnel working on the apron
  • Implement a policy, process and management structure for complying with airside environmental requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Safety Management or equivalent
  • Professional Qualification in Safety, Health and Environment or equivalent
  • U.S. Passport Holder
  • MBA Preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years Airside Operations & Safety Director level (or equivalent) experience at a major airport
