Director of Maintenance (DoM) – Part 135

 Job Summary

Director of Maintenance (DOM) for a Part 135 certificated commercial air carrier.  Manage an FAA approved air carrier maintenance program, including authorities for “ten or more” operations and DoD (CARB) approved operations, and ensure compliance with internal maintenance program requirements and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).  Develop maintenance policies, tools and processes.  Monitor compliance with FARs for the operation of the air carrier and application of air carrier General and Maintenance Operations Manuals.  Define maintenance requirements at base and line maintenance stations for airframes, engines and components.  Control delegated maintenance authority for air carrier and all vendor facilities.

Essential Tasks/Functions:

  • Plan, organize, or manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Direct activities related to maintaining the airworthiness of aircraft.
  • Monitor operations to ensure that staff members comply with administrative policies and procedures, safety rules, environmental policies, and government regulations.
  • Implement schedule or policy changes for air transportation services.
  • Monitor spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets.
  • Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending company safety meetings, or meeting with individual staff members.
  • Direct or coordinate the activities of maintenance department to obtain use of equipment, facilities, or human resources.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans, policies, or budgets for increasing profits or improving services.
  • Collaborate with other managers or staff members to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals, or objectives.
  • Direct staff performing repairs and maintenance to equipment, vehicles, or facilities.
  • Recommend or authorize capital expenditures for acquisition of new equipment or property to increase efficiency and services of operations department.
  • Set maintenance policies and standards, including determining safety procedures for the handling of dangerous goods.
  • Negotiate, authorize, or monitor fulfillment of contracts with service, equipment and materials suppliers.
  • Inspect work of aircraft mechanics performing maintenance, modification, or repair and overhaul of aircraft and aircraft mechanical systems to ensure adherence to standards and procedures.


Minimum Requirements:

Education: AA

Professional Licensure: Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License, FAA Inspector Authorization (IA).
Background: Must pass a background investigation and drug screening test

Experience: Position held for three of the past six years must have involved managing maintenance for a certificated Part 121 or Part 135 commercial air carrier. Prior Aircraft Mechanic Experience. Experience maintaining turbo-prop aircraft. Experience with modern avionics. Prior aviation QA/QC system experience.

Computer Skills: Microsoft office: Word, Excel and Power Point, CAMPS or other aircraft maintenance tracking system

Preferred Qualifications:

Education:  BS/BA
Professional Licensure/Certifications: Prior aircraft run up authorization.

Background: King Air series aircraft maintainer in government and civilian markets.

Training: Trained on Beechcraft King Air series aircraft. Pratt & Whitney Factory Training. Hazmat Certification.

Experience:  Maintenance management for a DoD (CARB) approved commercial air carrier. Military, Aviation Industry, Air Ambulance configured aircraft maintenance (including MEDEVAC/CASEVAC), ISR configured aircraft maintenance
