Engineering Group Lead – Flight Sciences


JOB DESCRIPTION – POSITION SUMMARY:

The Engineering Group Lead, Flight Sciences is responsible for all aspects of analytical substantiation for Large Interior Completion STC projects for Transport Category Aircraft and smaller modifications for Executive Aircraft undergoing Maintenance Operations under our Part 145 delegation. The incumbent will supervise subordinate engineers and will be responsible for the development of organizational standards, methods and processes.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Oversees the generation, coordination, and reviews of structural substantiation reports and associated analyses in support of Interior Modification STCs for Large Transport category Aircraft (14 CFR Part 25)
  2. Develops and supports compliance requirements for certification projects
  3. Supports analysis and structural substantiation needs related to the maintenance business enterprise for 14 CFR Part 25 executive aircraft under our Part 145 delegation
  4. Interfaces with structural, mechanical systems, interior, avionics and electrical design engineers to ensure certifiable designs for all structural aspects and oversees the generation of associated substantiating analysis and/or testing required
  5. Supervises subordinate engineers; provides guidance and growth to group members; develops and administers employee performance assessments
  6. Makes strategic decisions on work scope and personnel assignments and manages appropriate headcount and outsourcing
  7. Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, LICENSES:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent
  2. Five (5) or more years of experience working in aircraft completions industry on transport category aircraft and the associated Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification of all associated aircraft installation designs, including but not limited to Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) work, structural substantiation analysis and report development, aircraft modification designs under 14 CFR Part 25 STC projects, and test plans and test report authoring and review
  3. Two (2) years of supervisory experience within the completions field
  4. Valid passport with the ability to travel in and out of the United States

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Basic knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) governing aircraft certification
  2. Strong understanding of aircraft structural installations and governing regulations
  3. Strong command of classical hand-analysis techniques
  4. Strong knowledge and experience in airframe structural analysis
  5. Proficient with the following software:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Explorer
    • MathCAD
    • NASTRAN/FEMAP (basic user skill, proficiency a plus)
    • AutoCAD (basic user skill, proficiency a plus)
    • Solid Works (basic user skill, proficiency a plus)
  6. Ability to interpret design drawings of various aircraft modifications and identify design changes required to ensure that load paths and structural integrity are maintained
  7. Must be able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
  8. Ability to generate thorough, detailed, yet concise structural analysis reports
  9. Ability to supervise and motivate subordinate engineers
  10. Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  11. Strong time-management and organizational skills
