Export Control Compliance Subject Matter Expert (SME)

NOTE:  This Position Requires U.S., UK, Australia, or European Citizenship.  No Exceptions. 

Job Summary:

The Export Control Compliance SME assists in ensuring that Export Control regulatory policies and procedures are aligned with Saudi and international export law as it relates to the military and security market, and ensuring that Saudi industry is fully informed about and compliant with the policies and regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists in determining and communicating appropriate management accountability and responsibility for the Export  Compliance function and interfaces regularly with internal departments and corporate leadership.

Contributes in developing and implementing export controls policy and strategy, in partnership with key internal stakeholders across the enterprise and provides regulatory guidance to all departments.

Provides insight for export compliance directives based on best industry practice.

Assists in designing the implementation of the Military Export Control regime

Assists designing and monitoring compliance with defense export license processes and provides direction and guidance as appropriate.

Assists in developing the implementation of periodic internal and external audits to review, test, and evaluate the implementation of the export control policy ensuring export programs are effective, robust and in compliance with relevant policies laws and regulations.

Supports developing a LEAN and focused export controls team and assists in implementing periodic export control compliance training through workshops and other tools as appropriate to employees and the key internal stakeholders

Maintains expert-level knowledge of all applicable legislation and regulations.

Engages in reviewing and updating all policies and provides direction for compliance with other laws and regulations affecting international trade, including (for example) anti-boycott regulations.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in applicable discipline
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Blackbelt, LEAN, Six Sigma
  • Fifteen years applicable government or business experience required, including at least 10 years’ experience in global export compliance function within a defense business.
  • Ability to work with local and international legal agencies regarding export-related matters
  • Strong knowledge of principles, theories, concepts, and industry practices applicable to export/import programs.
  • Knowledge and experience with U.S., UK & European export control regimes
  • Strong knowledge and experience in military items, technology, and technical data classification according to U.S., UK, or European regulation
  • Good team player with experience of working in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to manage teams and deliver on objectives under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to manage different priorities and deliver high quality outcomes.
