Part 135 – System Chief Pilot

Position Summary:

Management personnel required for operations conducted under FAR part 135.  The System Chief Pilot holds the FAR 119.69 Chief Pilot position, as required and referenced in FAR 119.69. The System Chief Pilot may delegate these functions to the Base Chief Pilot but may not delegate the Chief Pilot’s responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervises all activities occurring within the Flight Operations Department
  • Meets the requirements of §119.71(c), or has a deviation from the FAA to serve in this position
  • Must maintain PIC currency in at least one FAR 135 Aircraft
  • Supervises all Base Chief Pilots
  • Responsible for the overall management of all company crewmembers
  • Assists the Director of Operations to ensure all operations are compliant with Federal Aviation Regulations, General Operations Manual, and the Operations Specifications
  • Directs flight crews in their activities and is authorized to exercise operational control
  • Establishes flight crew duty hours and audits flight and duty times to ensure compliance with Federal regulations and company policies
  • Ensures training programs are implemented for all aspects of flight crew operations, such as flight proficiency, medical equipment training, survival training, etc.
  • Oversight of all aspects of flight crew training, both ground and flight, and ensures compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations and the company’s Training Program
  • Works with the Director of Operations in evaluating training programs and exploring training program options
  • Maintains current Regulations, Airman’s Information Manual, Advisory Circulars, etc., and disseminates flight advisory information to flight crews.
  • Ensures flight crews adhere to the General Operations Manual and complete their assigned duties
  • Ensure that Crewmember qualification status i.e. training, checking and medical status is kept up to date in the scheduling system
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of all Company manuals, policies, and FAR’s
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to use FOS
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite application and Adobe
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the Company
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and initiative
  • Self-motivated and independent problem solving ability
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to travel to out-of-state sites as needed

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5 or more years of FAR 135 or 121 experience of which at least 3 years should be as PIC
  • Ability to hold and keep a FAA First Class Medical Certificate
