Job description

Avionics Manager needed for an FAA repair station with Garmin Dealership. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills and commitment to quality to positively impact the success of our avionics department. This position is a hands-on managerial role. The Manager will supervise technicians and be responsible for sales, which includes fostering good business relationships with suppliers and customers in order to maintain current business and drive the gain of new business. This role includes suggesting avionics packages and system upgrades to operators of general aviation aircraft and creating detailed proposals for them. The manager will also be responsible for attending trade shows, conferences, and vendor events to promote services and maintain good existing and develop new working relationships with external customers and OEMs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Promote a positive and proactive work environment
  • Supervise team of 5 Avionics Techs while working alongside them to evaluate and complete work
  • Set goals and expectations for employees and develop a communication strategy that provides employees with feedback on their performance
  • Mentor and train Avionics Techs of all tenure
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to staff and customers regarding avionics sales, installations and repair. Maintain open communications with customers to answer questions.
  • Work with the Director of Maintenance and other Manager-level employees, informing them of problems and work status to ensure timelines are being kept and communications with customers are timely and complete
  • Perform installation and maintenance of aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories in accordance with MFG specifications and FAA guidelines (aircraft such as Piper, Cessna, Pilatus, Hawker Beech, Gulfstream, and other general aviation and corporate aircraft)
  • Troubleshoot to determine malfunctions on aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as, airborne navigation/communication systems, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories
  • Test and inspect aircraft communications components, navigation components, weather radar, autopilot, compass systems, and accessories to MFG specifications
  • Monitor hours charged to jobs to assure that costs are controlled, including a daily review of employee time records to verify accuracy of time charged to work orders
  • Ensure maintenance activity is properly documented on Work Orders and associated quality documentation
  • Complete all checklists, forms and reports as required in accordance with the company, government, and FAA regulations and guidelines
  • Duties may be delegated as necessary; however, The Manager is responsible for the accomplishment of assigned duties and responsibilities


  • Degree or certificate from an accredited two (2) year college, university or technical school in avionics maintenance or electronics required or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years Garmin Installation/Upgrade Experience in GA/Corporate aircraft
  • Prefer 5+ years of Avionics experience with GA/Corporate aircraft
  • 5+ years of experience in a Supervisor/Manager role within Aviation
  • A&P License a plus
  • FCC General Radiotelephone License preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to motivate individuals and promote a sense of teamwork
  • Excellent customers service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent technical aptitude and the ability to communicate technical information to customers, employees and avionics equipment manufacturers
  • Knowledge of aircraft component repair
  • Knowledge of avionics, electronic and electrical test equipment
  • Knowledge of general aviation maintenance and its terminology
  • Knowledge of U.S. Government regulations for federal contractors and FAA maintenance programs
  • Must pass DOT/FAA pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
  • Must clear a DHS and TSA background check
