Senior Design Engineer – tooling design for composite manufacturing


SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER
The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible to create the design strategy, perform primary design, manage sub-designers and deliver total design execution of company’s custom tooling solutions for manufacturing composite structures with complex geometries and/or trapped features using our game changing Shape Memory Polymer (SMP) Tooling Technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Must have strong tooling design and surfacing experience with CATIA V5 software and be able to perform advanced mechanical engineering calculations to ensure overall project design requirements are met
• Must be proficient in GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 2009
• Will lead design reviews with customers, suppliers, and/or other departments to ensure sound designs and drawing accuracy, including visits as necessary to customers and suppliers
• Responsible to communicate directly with the customer on technical issues to get resolution of unknowns and required approvals
• Must be able to multi-task and assume responsibility for several projects at one time in differing levels of completion
• Highly desired to have experience with composites and resin injection processes.
• Will take a lead role in solving technical tooling problems throughout the project with assistance from Project Manager and Management
• May manage large technical projects that require a number of supporting engineers and/or design firms
• Will help to develop engineering standards and methods that create an environment where quality products are consistently developed and executed
• Will prepare and present engineering change documentation to the project manager to get sign-off by the customer and/or directly to the customer on development and smaller projects

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and six to eight years of related experience using 3D CAD software
• 3 Year minimum CATIA V5 Experience
• Experience with email and calendar software (i.e. Outlook) and Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project
• Travel: 2% – 15%
• Negative drug screen and favorable background check (Note: we are a smoke free facility)

• Strong computer design capabilities with CATIA V
• Strong G,D, & T experience
• Basic knowledge and experience with using CATIA V5 FEA
• Ability to solve difficult technical problems using systematic approach
• Good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
• Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, conferring with management on high-impact matters
• Ability to complete work with few to no errors on initial completion
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures or governmental regulations Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and managers, clients, customers, and the general public
• Work requires individual to devise own methods, to assist with techniques utilized by others, to exercise ingenuity, to analyze situations, and apply judgment required to make decisions of technical nature
