Manager of Engineering – Springfield, MO

The employer is currently recruiting for a Manager of Engineering to develop aircraft and components and approve engineering data at their trio of facilities.

PRIME RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position reports directly to the COO.
  • Manage and participate in all aspects of product development for assigned components, as detailed below –
  • Liaison with company subsidiaries and entities to provide engineer support, including their clientele and customers.
  • Manage group or direct and contract employees to support the business operations.
  • Grow business sector to add additional revenue streams in this related field.
  • Analyze existing commercial aircraft components to reverse engineer them and develop equivalent or improved replacement parts.
  • Use test equipment such as Force Gages, Light Meters, electronic test equipment, calipers, etc. in the analysis, design, and reverse engineering of aircraft components.
  • Direct and manage dimensional inspection and material analysis of assigned components by outside suppliers and support specialists.
  • Determine required Acceptance and Qualification testing for assigned components.
  • Prepare Test Procedures and oversee development of required test fixtures and test equipment.
  • Research and identify potential suppliers. Support the development and qualification of new suppliers. Act as technical liaison with suppliers to support production of assigned hardware.
  • Analyze part function to prepare Failure Modes and Effects Analysis on assigned components and associated aircraft systems.
  • Prepare FAA design substantiation document packages and coordinate FAA review.
  • Forecast and track Project Status for Management review.
  • Provide Technical Support to customers, suppliers, and internal personnel for existing products.
  • Perform other activities as assigned by management.

This position may require 5-15% travel to visit airline engineering departments, test facilities, MRO facilities and the Federal Aviation Administration offices, including locations outside the United States.

EDUCATION / PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related Engineering field required.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence required.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Experience working to commercial aerospace standards is highly desired.
  • Understanding of aircraft, engines, and associated systems (avionics, flight controls, bleed air systems, engine accessories, landing gear, interiors, etc.…) is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electromechanical devices such as Displays, Switches, Proximity Sensors, Pressure and Temperature Sensors, etc. including testing requirements, materials, and drawing requirements is highly desired.
  • At least four years commercial or military aerospace design or project experience with similar products strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on prototype, manufacturing or repair shop experience is desired.
  • Successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated effective decision making, organizational and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with the FAA PMA certification process a strong benefit.
  • Must be flexible in handling multiple tasks and can work in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment.
